The BLACK DIAMOND 1 & 2 Correction Page
When writing anything whatsoever the occasional typo pops up. And when researching a
comprehensive guide like Dale Sherman's Black Diamond 2, the occasional error may crop up. I love the guide that
Dale has produced, as it covers a broad spectrum of material which is useful both the the collector and the casual fan who
may just be interested in finding out what albums and videos are available. The book is chock full of information, and if
you don't already own it, I strongly suggest you get it! What follows here is a correction page for some of the errors
which appear in the book, none of which are "disasterous", but as I was particularly bored tonight I thought
I'd list the ones I spotted. I certainly hope that no one is offended by this, as such is not my intention, nor is it my
intent to be classified as a pedant forevermore! Some details are added which hadn't happened when the book was published!
Recently Dale forwarded some corrections/clarifications on BD1 for inclusion here, so I guess that he didn't find the
concept too presumptuous (though I hear the hit squads are out!0)!.
Black Diamond
- p077 of BD1: "Tour beginning on January 23. . .Dayton, Ohio on New Year's Eve." This is clearly a mistake on my part. A section from another part of the book got transplanted and tacked onto the end of a sentence. The first part is correct, however.
- p084 of BD1: It should be Junior Smalley. Typo.
- p095 of BD1: I discuss the LOVE GUN/ALIVE II stage set and mentioned the rising platform while talking about the Japanese tour. As pointed out by Petteri Korhonen, they never used these when in Japan. I never stated that they did, but the paragraph used in BD1 could be misread in this manner. I will change it for any new editions to make it clearer.
- p143 of BD1: "January 15, 1982. . .the band's first and only live performance of material [from THE ELDER]." Petteri brought up the fact that they also performed "A World Without Heroes" during the MTV UNPLUGGED concert. They also played it and attempted a few others from the album during the convention tour that year as well. However, it still stands that the 1982 performance was the only time such material was performed live at the time of the album's release and with the proper members of the band.

- p074 - "I Just Wanna" was issued as a single track Promo CD, CDP-707.

- p081 - Release code for the "Every Time I Look At You" Promo CD from Unplugged is CDP-1579.
- p084 - The release code of the "New York Groove (Live)" Promo CD is Mercury MECP-120.
- p085 - "1995 Studio Album" officially became "Carnival Of Souls: The Final Sessions" release code, 536-323-2/4, and was released by Mercury Records on October 28, 1997.
- p086 - "Carnival Of Souls" was co-produced by Toby Wright and Gene Simmons/Paul Stanley.
- p086 - "The Jungle" simply known as "Jungle".

- p087 - Eric Carr: Album title actually is "Lightning: Lightning", not "Disco Symphony" which happens to be the first track on the album.

A promotional 12" single was also issued for the album featuring "Disco Symphony/Baby Without Your Love" (Casablanca NBD-20205DJ). Both of these would have been issued late in 1979, at about the same time as the band was breaking up. The album was produced by Lewis Merenstein and Ralph Moss, assisted by Howard Merritt. It was recorded at The Sound Place, NY and Eric is credited as "Paul Caravello" and appears on drums and backing vocals. Numerous other session musicians appear.
- p088 - Re: "In a 1990 interview with Eric, he admitted that there may be five or six copies in existance"... Well I have two copies, and have sold a third, and know three others who have copies, two of which have two copies... thus 5 or 6 is highly unlikely, though it is incredibly difficult to obtain, assuming that some of the band members got copies also! Recently, the Caravello family put the figure closer to 50 copies - still mega-rare!

A small white sticker appears on the cover describing the contents, using English spelling, though the premiums were the American versions and are thus no different. The album was also available in red vinyl.
